Congratulations to Dr. Gita Naseri (Emmanuelle Charpentier’s laboratory at the Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens (MPUSP) and Marc Erhardt’s laboratory at the Institute for Biology, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) who has been awarded a six-year grant of almost 2,6 Million EUR by the Emmy Noether Program of the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG)). JUNE 22, 2023
On 22 June, we had the pleasure to welcome seven PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers and two experienced researchers from Australia to our institute for a tour of our labs and facilities. The researchers were all awarded a grant from the Science and Industry Endowment Fund and the Australian Academy of Sciences to attend the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting and to take part in the SIEF Research Innovation Tour in Berlin.  more

The Long Night of Sciences took place on Saturday, June 17 in Berlin and Potsdam. Approximately 60 institutions presented their work with over 1,000 program offerings. The Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens (MPUSP) took part in this year's edition of the Long Night of Sciences, together with the German Rheumatism Research Center (DRFZ) and the Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology (MPIIB) in our building on the Campus Charité Mitte.

Visit from the President-Elect of the Max Planck Society, Patrick Cramer

At its meeting on June 23, 2022 in Berlin, the Senate of the Max Planck Society has appointed Patrick Cramer, Director at the Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences in Göttingen, as its new President-Elect for the term 2023-2029. He will succeed Martin Stratmann in June 2023, on the occasion of the Max Planck Society's 75th anniversary. Over the past few months, Patrick Cramer has visited the 85 institutes that will be under his leadership. On March 23, 2023, he visited our institute. We are grateful for his visit and his speech, which highlighted the importance of research on microbial pathogens in our research organization and the MPG's commitment to excellence.

Prof. Marc Erhardt (Institute for Biology, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin) has been appointed Max Planck Fellow at the Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens (MPUSP) headed by Prof. Emmanuelle Charpentier. Marc Erhardt and his team work at the interface of bacterial cell biology and infection biology using bacterial genetics and quantitative single-cell biological approaches to understand pathogenicity mechanisms of Gram-negative bacteria.
