Mark your calendars!
The next Long Night of Sciences will take place
June 22, 2024 17:00-00:00

For more information, full 2024 program, locations, and links to tickets, please visit the Berlin Long Night of Sciences website.

This year we will have an information booth where visitors can learn about bacteria, CRISPR, our institute and our research, a kid’s corner where they can learn about cells and bacteria through fun art projects and games, a career panel for those interested in pursuing a career in science, and 2 lab tours (in English). Come early to sign up for the tours!

Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens welcomed hundreds of visitors during the Long Night of Sciences 2023!

The Long Night of Sciences took place on Saturday, June 17, 2023 in Berlin and Potsdam. Approximately 60 institutions presented their work with over 1,000 program offerings.

The Max Planck-Unit for the Science of Pathogens (MPUSP) took part in this year’s edition of the Long Night of Sciences, together with the German Rheumatism Research Center (DRFZ) and the Max-Planck Institute for Infection Biology (MPIIB), which are housed in the same building on Charité’s Campus in Berlin-Mitte, near the Futurium and Berlin’s Medical History Museum.

At our stand, visitors got a peek behind the curtains into the daily life of a scientist at MPUSP: the bacterial research, the practical lab work and the importance of bioinformatics. For young inquisitive minds, there were hands-on activities through which kids learned about bacteria, DNA, and tested their skills with real laboratory equipment.

Lab Tours

During tours through our lab, visitors observed small molecular and microbial experiments, which gave them a better understanding of the methods used to study bacteria and their DNA.

The lab tours were suitable for both German and English speaking persons.

Lecture/Panel discussion

Meet the Scientists: An Interactive Discussion with the Scientists of MPUSP (in English)
The Scientists of MPUSP gave a short presentation and then opened the floor for Q&A with the audience about what the day-to-day work as a microbiologist is like: the goals, the challenges and the rewards.

Science Slam – Of Humans and Microbes (in English and German)

Five young scientists, three institutes, one house trophy! The Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, the German Rheumatism Research Center and the Max Planck Unit for the Science of Pathogens are conducting research under one roof. The Science Slam participants were joined by special guest Lisa Budzinski, the reigning national Science Slam champion. In our Science Slam, everyone was a winner!
